The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) is coordinating a review of Carnarvon flood plain management to mitigate the impact of future flood events. The review will inform government and industry on the factors contributing to impacts during a flood event. A Flood plain management working group has been initiated, with representatives from local industry and government stakeholders. Carnarvon Growers Association is being represented on the working group by Paul Shain, Rod Sweetman and Nic Cuthbert. The working group will identify mitigation strategies and management options while providing clarity on responsibilities, accountability, and authority. This will help stakeholders understand their role in minimising the impact of future flood events on the horticultural industries on the Carnarvon flood plain.
Growers are encouraged to contribute to the working group through written submissions/attending a focus group session/speaking to CGA’s representatives on the Working Group.
Growers can provide a written submission identifying any contributing factors they consider impacted the severity of flooding on their property. Submissions can be emailed to Vicki McAllister at vicki.mcallister@dpird.wa.gov.au or posted to:
